Meiji Techno Co Ltd is now the third largest manuacturer of optical microscopes in Japan, In 1964, Azuma Optics Co Ltd was founded as a contract manufacturer of microscopes and quickly established a reputation for high quality and fast delivery. In 1975, the company reformed as Meiji Techno Co Ltd and began selling microscopes under the name Meiji Techno.
Originally a manufacturer of educational microscopes, Meiji Techno has since extended its product lines into the industrial, laboratory and research markets.
Quality
Meiji Techno makes microscopes that last. Anyone who picks up a Meiji microscope or who maintains them, will attest to the weight of the instrument, the robustness of the mechanical assemblies and the quality of the optics. They are made "the old fashioned way" with quality materials and attention to detail.
Unlike their competitors, Meiji Techno still manufacture all of their microscopes in Japan and maintain their high standards with their ISO9001 quality assurance system. Their ability to respond and manufacture promptly is also advantageous. These factors have contributed to them now being regarded as a top class manufacturer and certainly a worthy competitor to the "big four" - Olympus, Nikon, Zeiss and Leica.
Meiji Techno has forged an excellent reputation in Europe and North America. This reputation is not based on the building of a brand name only but on the quality of their microscopes.
Meiji Techno in NZ
To the laboratory or research microscope user in New Zealand, the name Meiji Techno may not immediately spring to mind. However, the manufacturer has a reasonably long history in the educational and industrial markets here. For many years, Meiji Techno supplied the Education Department with many hundreds of high quality stereomicroscopes for New Zealand schools. Micro Imaging has been the New Zealand agent for Meiji Techno since 1988. We continue to sell Meiji Techno student microscopes into those New Zealand schools who want the highest quality, robust, educational instruments.
In the industrial market we have been supplying Meiji Techno instruments and accessories to a wide range of users, whether it be for electronics, component manufacturing or for general inspection/quality control. Again, these instruments are sold when the customer requires and requests top quality, not just the cheapest possible instrument!
More recently, and with the introduction of Meiji's new laboratory and research quality range of compound and stereomicroscopes, we have entered the laboratory/research makret. This market was, traditionally, considered to be the exclusive domain of the "big four" manufacturers - we are having a good degree of success in all areas - education, laboratory and research levels. There seems to be room for a maker who offers the old fashioned values of high quality and good value.
